More Than Just A Library

The LRC forms a major circular part of the Dempsey Centre. It seats 120 users and has 66 computers available to the boys and staff, along network points and Wi-Fi.

Opening Times & Use

Opening times are from 7:45 until 17:00 Monday to Wednesday, 9:20 – 17:00 on Thursday and 8:00 – 16:30 on Friday. All boys have access to the LRC all day with permission from Teachers and it is open to all students before school, during break and lunchtime, and after school. The 6th form may also use the LRC during their private study periods.

There are two floors. The ground floor has six of the computers, study desks and shelving for approximately 32,000 resources including 6000 fiction books available to loan to students and staff. These include books, e-books, DVDs, CDs, cameras, camcorders, other AV equipment and binoculars. Boys are allowed to take out a varying number of resources depending on their year group. There are also periodicals and newspapers in English and foreign languages available to use in the LRC. The boys also loan all their textbooks through the LRC.

The top floor is a computer suite of sixty computers, half of which are available to the 6th form during lesson time for private study. The boys are able to print from the computers on either floor.

Activities & Engagement

There are book groups for all ages and the LRC runs the Inter-House Literary Quiz, competes with other schools in other Literary competitions, arranges trips to the theatre and cinema, local readers’ festivals and is heavily involved with various activities within the annual Tiffin International Week celebrations.
